The Anatomy

The hand, as pictured here in Figure 1, is at its most comfortable. We call is the "High Five" position. It is the way we choose naturally to hold our hand. Yes, we humans are blessed with opposable thumbs, but to use this position, when the thumb is in opposition to the palm of the hand (Figure 2) in a repetitive way is uncomfortable in the long run because it can injure the muscles and tendons which are responsible for thumb movement.


   


The Physics

The scissor pictured below illustrates the other benefit of the Evolution® Shear. As you can see, the closer the thumb ring is to the pivot of the scissor, the less your thumb needs to move to open the blades. Also, the closer the thumb ring is to the pivot of the scissor, the closer your hand is to the "High Five" position!
